New Brunswick Police Commission - Third Party Review

The New Brunswick Police Commission, is an independent civilian oversight body that investigates and resolves citizens' complaints relating to the conduct of police officers.

Acting Chair, Lynn Chaplin, indicated that the Commission initiated a strategic planning process in December which will carry on in the New Year.  The Commission is reviewing how it conducts investigations, the investigators manual, and its operational procedures in order to ensure that it meets the role of safeguarding the public interest in policing in New Brunswick.

The Police Commission has asked the Minister of Public Safety to appoint an independent third party to review the allegations made by the Police Association on the Commission's processes and procedures.  The Commission will fully cooperate with this process and is committed to continually reviewing the way it provides quality services to citizens and the police community and meets its mandate with integrity and impartiality.
